Every month, Unknown Marketing visits a college or school to deliver a talk about the risks of young people being on social media and the implications this could have on their health. Today, I am talking about a few new features that have been introduced to Instagram to combat bullying and highlight positive content.
For those of you who are reading this and don't know, Instagram is a social media platform where users can share images and connect with other users to like and comment on their posts. So, how can it be so dangerous?
Instagram, like many other social media platforms, opens you up to a whole new world...A world that isn't restricted to just nice people like you and I. A world that certain individuals can access to bully or manipulate others...typically the younger generation. So, what has instagram done to tackle this?
Bulk Comment Deleting: Users will now be able to select and delete up to 25 comments at once.
Comment Pinning: Users will gain the ability to pin a series of their favourite comments which were posted to their publication as part of a test.
Tag Controlling: You can also manage who tags or mentions you on Instagram.
I believe this is a great move forward for Instagram and believe that all other social platforms should follow similar rules to keep people in control of their online platforms and decrease the level of bullying out there.
